To start, I’d like to challenge you to think about one thing that you’ve always dreamed of doing, but haven’t yet. Now, ask yourself WHY? If you’re completely honest with yourself, you know the true reason for not moving forward. Don’t you?
Are you protecting yourself from potential hurt? Do you secretly fear that you’re not good enough? Is it because you feel like, no matter what your dream is, it isn’t perfect yet? Thus, you wait. Has that wait turned from weeks into months, even years?
Ultimately, waiting on perfection is a form of self-sabotage that isn’t often realized. We have a tendency to think that it’s good to wait for things to be perfect before we release a book, start a business, or venture into something new. The excuses we produce range from ‘the time isn’t right’ to ‘it just needs a little more work.’ You may even feel like you can’t do it because you’re not wealthy, or famous. Maybe the dream hasn’t progressed past the vision in your head.
Take a moment to release all of those excuses. It’s time to tune out that little voice in your head, also known as your ego, that uses words like ONLY IF, YOU SHOULDN’T or YOU CAN’T. It’s time to quiet your mind and allow the stillness to guide you.
Now, imagine what it feels like to be living your dream. Fast forward past the details of how you got there and settle into seeing yourself there. Don’t settle for small doses of what you truly want. Dream BIG!
What are you wearing? Are you healthier, or in better shape? What do you see when you look around? How is the weather? What are the conversations you are having with others? Allow yourself to hear them tell you how great you are.
Really think about how it feels. Are you joyful? Content? Bursting with pride?
I believe that we all have the power to be the light in the darkness of our own self-sabotage. And there is no better time than NOW to step out of the shadows and take those first steps to realizing your dreams.
